The Age of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) has brought massive and profound transformations to all sectors of society. Hence, educational sector must also adapt and thrive into these changes in order to provide the necessary service that it should cater to the learners. In the LinkedIn Learning Courses entitled, “Gamification for Interactive Learning” and “Gamification of Learning,” Dr. Karl Kapp provided proper information that we should understand about Gamification. He substantively discussed the importance of the elements of gamification, and how it could generate engagement experiences during the learning process with the learners. Dr. Karl Kapp set his arguments that gamification is one of the techniques that educators must learn in this digital age of learning. He believed that educators should be enlightened with the proper management of gamification to take advantage of its benefits and create a learning environment that might enhance and boost the intrinsic and extrinsic motivation of the students to learn on their own. In my opinion, the implementation of various game-based learning and gamification techniques today, especially in this time of pandemic, is very timely. Students are so much disturbed by different distractions. One of those distractions that would usually interrupt the learning process of the students is their too much fascination in playing different mobile games. As a result, educators are faced with the problem of regularly competing against mobile games to attract the attention of their learners. Therefore, gamification is a great strategy to boost the interests of the student to learn today. The learners of the 21st century always look for something new. As educators, I believe that it is our duty to fill that thirst of our students. We should always innovate our methods in order to continuously generate a desire to learn from out students.
Aside from learning gamification, educators must also learn how to generate learning resources that can be easily accessed by their students. Well, there are various of learning resources that can be downloaded on the internet. However, I still believe that educators have the responsibility to contextualize the learning process of their students. Hence, teachers must also learn how to navigate tools that they can use for the purpose of preserving their lectures. This is the relevance of the third LinkedIn Learning Course entitled “Video Editing Fundamentals.” In this course, Ms. Ashley Kennedy discussed the basic concepts of video editing. She provided a comprehensive and substantive discourse on the relevance of video editing to generate a narrative that would capture the interests of the viewers. This kind of skills is very helpful to capture the interests of the 21st century learners are very adept in using audio-visual learning tools. Educators must take advantage of this kind of skill to draw out the creativity among their learners.
The LinkedIn Learning Courses IoT Foundations: Fundamentals and - RPA, AI, and Cognitive Tech for Leaders would give the learners the proper perspective how to become equipped with all the essential concepts of Information and Communication Technologies. Internet of Things, Robotic Process Automation, Artificial Intelligence, and Machine Learning are just some of the relevant terms that a business or corporation must familiarize itself and learn to apply it in their operations to be able to thrive in the challenges of the postmodern society. It is very sad reality that some of our educational institutions here in the Philippines are not even literate with these concepts. This is one of the greatest tragedies that we have here in the academic community. Our institutions have not been able to go with the flow of the fast-pacing changes of the successive revolutions of the ICT.
As institutions of learning, I believe that the academic community should always be the first sector that should learn to thrive in the challenges of new technologies. It is our duty to enlighten our learners with the opportunities and threats that it can give to us as we journey with it. Educators should always open its mind for learning new ideas and concepts that they can use in order to guide its learners for a better social transformation that we should always aspire for one another.
