REFLECTION IN THE WEBINAR ENTITLED “BETTER TEACHERS FOR THE BETTER NORMAL."

Someone said that “A good teacher is like a candle – it consumes itself to light the way for others.” I believe that this is the very insight that this webinar would like to emphasize. Teacher is one of the most unappreciated professions not just in the Philippine but in other countries as well. The speakers in the webinar comprehensively discussed the sacrifices and efforts that the teachers have displayed, especially in this time of pandemic.

This webinar is an eye-opener for all the stakeholders involved in the educational community. Teachers have always been at the forefront of the battlefield playing the role of a footman soldier to ensure the victory of delivering effective and efficient learning experiences for the youth of this nation. Our society has been demanding a lot from them to perform at a level that would sometimes exhaust them not just the professional aspect of their lives but also their mental, emotional, and personal strength. If they are considered as a relevant part of the foundation of education, then it is just right that we also provide them the necessary concern and care that they must receive and experience.

Yes, there were teachers that have been put into a negative spotlight in media due to certain actions that they have committed. However, we also have to consider the fact that for every teacher who fails to fulfill their job, there are many teachers who have been extending their service and doing the extra mile in order to better address the needs of their students. Hence, these teachers deserve our utmost respect and support. Let us also not forget the fact that teachers have personal problems and challenges that they must also deal with while taking care of the concerns of their students be it in school related tasks or even personal problems; and in spite of the difficulties that our teachers have been experiencing today, they are able to continuously serve our community with their sincere compassion for the next generation of this country.

Our society must constantly recognize and appreciate the front liners of our education. We should provide them with the necessary support that they need not just financially but also mentally and emotionally. We have to boost their morale and make them feel that all of their works and efforts are highly valued. This is very essential at time like this when all of us experience doubt and hopelessness. At the end of the day, the problem in the educational sector is not just limited in a single institution but it involves the whole community. It involves everyone of us because teachers grind and work hard for the future of the next generation of our nation.
