In the Digital World, people have been used to doing things in an instant. We want instant coffee and instant breakfast, so we can easily deal with our hectic schedule in the morning as we go to our work. We want instant connection to internet that will give us no disruption when we watch our favorite movies and drama series in Netflix. We demand for the instant response of our officemates, friends, or family members when we communicate with them. Of course, learning can also be done in an instant. Digital learners are now able to have an immediate access to an enormous amount of information by searching through Google and other search engines. This is the essence of Digital Learning. It provides the 21st century learners with the privilege to learn the knowledge and information that they need at the moment.
Discussing the concept and relevance of Digital Learning is the main core of the course The Digital Transformation of Learning. Daniel Brigham brings us in a discussion that revolutionizes the way we see learning process. It is a video for the transformation of the corporate learning that initiates innovating the strategies to educate employees. Although it focuses on the corporate learning, the innovations that he discussed are highly applicable to the academe world.
Daniel Brigham discussed the relevance of using digital media like videos, podcasts, and mobile applications. According to him, these tools can help the learners to immediately access the knowledge and information whenever and wherever they need it. Hence, Digital learning empowers the learners to become more knowledgeable and skilled due to the immediate access to knowledge and information.
He also explained the relevance of social learning which can be done through online platforms like Microsoft Teams. By practicing social learning, we are also able to create a learning environment that stimulates collaboration. Hence, learning is not just focus on a single source. Learners can also learn knowledge and skills from their peers and co-learners. Digital Learning does not just provide us with an immediate access of information through search engines. It also helps to create a space where learners can connect with each other and learn from each other’s experiences.
In my opinion, the main purpose of Digital learning is to empower learners and generate significant learning experiences for them. By doing this, we can also stimulate them to gain relevant learning insights that may help them to set goals and perspective to attempt social transformation for the benefit of their society.
Shifting to Digital Learning is just a way for us to improve our education; and we must remind ourselves that the main reason we improve our education is because we want to further enlighten the life of our young generation and affect changes to their behavior. By doing this, we can initiate the change that we want to attain in our society.
